After the ceremony, we took family portraits. Then we did pictures with the bridal party and finally pictures of just me and Matthew.
Once those were all finished, it was reception time. All of the bridesmaids and groomsmen were announced as they walked inside. Then Matthew and I were announced and we walked in and took our seats.
The bridal party sat at a long table in front of a huge window. The guests were all seated at round tables in front of us.
The DJ announced that my dad will be saying grace and then afterwards, dinner can begin. The food was absolutely delicious!! We had grilled chicken breast with penne pasta, roasted red skin potatoes, and grilled vegetable medley. I loved it all!
Then it was time for the best man and maid of honor speeches. Oh my goodness, they were incredible!! Both made me laugh and Katie’s almost made me cry! They were some of the best speeches I have ever heard. Matthew and I are blessed to have friends like Kyle and Katie who cherish our friendship and, even more importantly, love God.
After speeches, it was time for the special dances. Matthew and I danced to “You’ll be in My Heart” by Phil Collins. Tarzan is my favorite movie and that song is so special to me. Matthew will always be in my heart. I cried during the dance. It was a wonderful memory.
For the father daughter dance, I picked “Forever” by the Beach Boys.
Matthew and his mom danced to a song that is special to them. I can’t remember the song at the moment but I’ll update this after I ask him what it was. He said that he and his mom cried during the dance and that just shows how incredibly sweet he is.
When the dances were over, it was cake cutting time! Remember how we had people put money in a jar to see who got the cake to the face? Well I won so Matthew had to get cake smashed! Well, we thought he won. But then afterwards Matt asked:
“It’s who gets the least amount of money that gets cake in the face, right?”
“No, it’s whoever gets the most. Why?”
“Oops. Someone put a $100 bill in your jar…so you actually should have gotten cake in the face.”
“Oh well, at least our mistake kept my makeup looking good.”
So yeah, we messed up but it was still a ton of fun! Our cake was red velvet. The icing was white and it had real succulents on top. We got our own small round cake and everyone else got different flavored sheet cakes.
The bouquet and garter toss was right after the cake cutting. I struggled so much with tossing that bouquet! The first time I tossed it, it didn’t even reach the ladies. The second time it went too far, and the third time it hit the ceiling! Finally, after my fourth time throwing it, Amber caught it.
The garter toss was much more smooth. Matthew felt very uncomfortable so he super quickly pulled the garter off. Later my dad jokingly asked, “Did you have the garter around your ankle?” Brett, Amber’s fiance and after this weekend husband, caught the garter after Matt’s first attempt at throwing. He obviously has much better tossing skills than me.
For the remainder of the night, everyone just danced and had a great time! It was so awesome to be able to celebrate our love and marriage with our friends and family.
It truly was the best day of my life…
