Michigan Itinerary…

Matthew and I are buying a house.  Buying a house is very costly.  Closing costs and down payment alone will be close to $10,000.  That is a lot of monies for two newlyweds in their early twenties!  We really want to go somewhere to celebrate our one year anniversary.  We want it to be special, but we don’t have room to spend a lot of money.  We were stumped for awhile until I thought of Michigan.

Michigan is one of my favorite states to visit.  My all time favorite spot there is Mackinac Island.  I’ve been there several times and would love to go back again.  One year I stayed in the Grand Hotel.  That was such a fun experience!  It is a nice little island where no vehicles are allowed.  So you can either walk, ride your bike, or ride on a horse and buggy for transportation.

Matthew and I are not going to Mackinac Island this year (although we definitely will in the future).  Instead, we are going to my second favorite spot: Traverse City.  Traverse City is beautiful.  And the lake there looks stunning.  Matthew has never been so I am excited for him to experience it for the first time!

Since Traverse City is a very touristy area, the hotels there are typically over $200 a night.  That is a bit more than what we would feel comfortable spending on a place to stay so we looked into cheaper options such as Airbnb.  We found a cute little home on a lake, not Lake Michigan, but a smaller lake that is near the Great Lake.  The family is renting out their master bedroom that has it’s own bathroom and an indoor jacuzzi.  The family has lots of wonderful reviews and seem like sweet people.  We are excited to stay there and it’s only $84 a night!!

Matt and I like chill vacations where not a lot is crammed into one day.  So we came up with a simple itinerary and everything on it is free!

Michigan Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at the Airbnb at 6pm.  Unpack our bags and explore the surrounding area and the lake.

Day 2: Visit the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes.  I have been here before and it is such a neat experience!  It takes 4 to 5 hours to hike only 3.5 miles because hiking in sand is one of the most difficult things.  The last time I was here I couldn’t finish the hike, so I’m going to try my best to finish it this time!

Day 3: (our anniversary) Explore Traverse City then have dinner at Torch Lake and watch the sunset.  Pictures of Torch Lake look absolutely stunning.  I have never been there but apparently celebrities visit it frequently because the water looks like you’re at the Caribbean.  (of course the dinner will cost money but so far everything else is free).

Day 4: Visit beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan and just swim and lay out in the sun all day.

Day 5: Do whatever we feel like doing, maybe visit the lake again, and pack up and go home.

I can’t wait for our trip.  It will be a much needed break from all the house buying and moving stress.  I am most excited for Torch Lake!!  I will be posting lots of pictures on my Instagram account when we visit so be sure to give me a follow to see how beautiful the lake is! #ShamelessPlug

It’ll be such a wonderful one year anniversary trip and I am so excited!

With Love,

Quiet Girl
